2012 subaru impreza review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new, and chic. introductionthe more things change, the more they stay the same; that adage has applied to subaru for decades. These concise, tough, traditionally plain cars have an exceptionally devoted following in the marketplace, largely because subarus have the lived-in familiarity of a favorite pair of old shoes. But for 2012, something new, and almost un-subaru, has been added. the new 2012 impreza is the most dashing, stylish car subaru has ever dared produce. Given subaru's conservative, don't-rush-me tradition, this 2012 impreza is, in its own way, revolutionary. At a stellar 36 mpg highway/27 mpg city on the epa cycle, the impreza is the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive car in america. At the same time, while many competing cars continue to get heavier, the new impreza, depending on model and equipment, has lost up to 165 pounds in curb weight, contributing to increased fuel efficiency. subaru has long established itself as a builder of rugged small cars. According to the company, 95 percent of subarus sold in the past 10 years are still on the road. Only the loss of six weeks' production due to the tsunami in japan slowed 2011 sales. But the efficient new 2012 impreza, starting at the same base price as the 2011 impreza, achieves a significant jump in efficiency, value for dollar and appeal. Most models come standard with a 5-speed manual gearbox; a cvt continuously variable transmission (which works like an automatic) adds $1,000. Input jack, heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, windshield wiper de-icers, auto on/off lights, climate control, chrome exterior door handles and grille accents, chrome-trim fog lights, leather upholstery, leather steering wheel and shifter, dual rear cup holders. The new car's wheelbase is one inch longer than the previous impreza, and the base of its a-pillar has been moved a massive 7. 9 inches forward. This slants the windshield steeply back resulting in a sleek, modern profile. this aggressive cabin shape, besides looking great, allows subaru designers to achieve startling improvements in interior space and efficiency. The new impreza is roomier, more comfortable and easier to get in and out of. A major element in this improvement is the fact that front door opening is almost five inches longer front to rear. The lower lip of the doorsill is also one inch lower than in the previous model, adding to ease of entry. The rear door opening is also longer, achieving the same benefits. All of this in a car that isn't one inch longer than the previous-generation model. in other respects, the new impreza is a pleasing, modern shape. The nose is aggressive, with dual low air intakes, shrouded for the lowest amount of aerodynamic drag. The rakishly shaped headlight clusters seem to glower with determination. The impreza's sides have three character lines, thrusting downward and ahead. Finally, the wheel wells are surrounded by a distinctive flat semicircular bevel that keeps the profile from looking too heavy. a stiffer chassis floor for 2012 allows the suspension to react more accurately to changing loads and more spirited driving. all in all, the 2012 impreza is one of the most attractive small cars in the marketplace, replacing the cheap/minimalist theme of some others with an appearance of true chic. interiorentering the cabin for the first time, the 2012 impreza has an airy, nicely stylish feel, with a relatively low beltline and a large greenhouse with large windows that welcome the outside world. The instrumentation on the dash looks simple and straightforward, as opposed to high-tech and demanding. It is a look that is fully in keeping with subaru's geewhiz-free approach. But the controls are by no means a throwback to the previous (2008-2011) model. The main dials for engine speed (redline 6600 rpm) and vehicle speed are black-on-white and almost disappointingly plain in keeping with subaru's no-nonsense tone. The cruise control, audio control and hands-free phone controls on the steering wheel were dead simple, with little toggles that did their job well. A small multi-function info display is located d.

2012 mini cooper countryman review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It's the practical mini, a more all-purpose vehicle than the other models. The countryman isn't as responsive as the sportiest mini models, but it's good fun to drive and more engaging than other vehicles in its class,. It's also more comfortable than other minis. while the taller, larger countryman looks a bit different than other minis, it's based on the same underpinnings and uses the same engines. The upgrade turbocharged version delivers more horsepower and more torque over a broader range, making it more responsive around town and more entertaining. all-wheel drive is available with the turbo. It delivers 41 cubic feet of cargo space behind the front seats, with a third of that in the deep trunk with all seats in place. The countryman will work for families with two small children. the interior treatment is similar to that in other mini coopers. Recurring styling themes, unusual controls and stylized instruments highlight the cabin yet it's functional and quite useful. options, including navigation, premium harman-kardon audio, leather and wheel packages, and park-distance control, are plentiful. The turbo is available with all-wheel drive. All come standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, but all are available with a 6-speed automatic 1,250). Its distinctions are obvious only if it's parked near another mini model. Designers have done a great job retaining mini's familiar visual charm in the countryman, and that's one reason it's not obvious how much larger than other minis the countryman really is. At 161. 8 inches in length and 61. 5 inches high, it's 17. 7 inches longer and 6. 1 inches taller than a mini cooper hardtop. It's about six inches longer than the extended-wheelbase clubman. The countryman has a similar footprint to ford's fiesta subcompact hatchback, and it's substantially smaller than other compact crossovers. It's a foot shorter than a volkswagen tiguan, and 1. 7 feet shorter than a toyota rav4. countryman's grille is more upright than that on other mini models. Its headlight clusters are big and oblong, rather than classic mini round, with two pipes for main beams and a ring of led elements that serve as daytime running lights (drls). The countryman is playful, different and seems quite appropriate for this maximum mini. it's available in plenty of colors, some unique to it, with contrasting roof paint. Design themes, features and materials are similar in all minis. For the same reason, the countryman is a big improvement in forward visibility. The view outward is very good in all directions, because the roof pillars are fairly narrow and more widely spread out. The edges of the hood can be seen by the driver, the glass is expansive and the rear wiper is very effective. The side mirrors are available with a power-fold option for rare neighborhoods where a mini is wide. the standard upholstery is vinyl, or leatherette as mini calls it. It doesn't come off as cheap, and we'd be quite happy with it. Upgrades include cloth, a couple types of leather, or a combination of cloth inserts and leather side bolsters on the seats. Contrasting piping is available. Door panel inserts have soft-touch surfaces, the roof is a fuzzy fabric and carpeted floor mats are standard for 2012. Most of the standard trim pieces are well-grained plastic. There are no sharp edges or mold lines where panels meet, and nothing looks like a cost-cutting measure, nor out of place. choices in cabin trim are as varied as what's available in some luxury cars, with dark silver, piano black, faux carbon fiber and wood among the choices. Door panel inserts and some control surfaces are available in matching or contrasting colors.
